Beginners Should Not Be Afraid To Draw In Webinars Sketching in Architecture: Building Concepts Through Sketching

The Center for Development and Study (P2K) of Educational Facilities and Infrastructure (Sarprasdik) of the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia held a Webinar entitled: "Sketches in Architecture: Building Concepts through Sketches" virtually through the Zoom Meeting platform starting at 09.00 to 12.00 Western Indonesia Time on Saturday (07/11/20).

The keynote person for this Webinar is Augustinus Madyana Putra S.T. M.Sc., a sketch activist from Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University and the responders are Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Gagoek Hardiman from Diponegoro University, Semarang

In his remarks, the Head of the Organizer, who is also a lecturer in Architectural Engineering Education at FPTK UPI, Dr. Asep Yudi Permana, S.Pd., M.Des., stated that the event was attended by various groups, especially Architecture students spread across various regions in Indonesia. There were 330 participants. Donations gave by the participants would be used for social activities in Garut.

The first session of the webinar was presented by Augustinus Madyana Putra S.T. M.Sc. The discussion took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Some of the sketches that had been made in Bandung were also discussed by the keynote speakers. Some of the stories and sketching techniques behind each of the works that were displayed were also presented. Some of the works displayed are sketches of Gedung Sate, Gedung Merdeka, Majestik Building, De Vries Building, City Hall Building, Bethel Church and Bank Indonesia Building. The keynote speakers shared the process and the story behind the sketch.

Augustinus Madyana Putra, S.T., M.Sc demonstrated a live sketch by taking the Villa Isola building as its object, which was followed by a sketch drawing activity by the participants at home. In the second session, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Gagoek Hardiman, is also called Mbah Gagoek, gave his discourse on the practice of sketching and its relation to conceptual thinking in architecture. On this occasion Mbah Gagoek advised beginners to not be afraid to draw because the more they practice,  they would sharpen their skills in sketching.
