The International Symposium and Workshop on Sustainable Building, Cities, and Community, known as SBCC, recently concluded at Pullman Grand Central in Bandung organized by the Architecture Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), this event represented a significant step forward in sustainable development. With its central theme focused on "Building Low Carbon Future: Decarbonising with Impact," the symposium aimed to tackle critical environmental issues through inventive solutions and collaborative endeavors. Guided by Event Chairman Dr. Beta Paramita, the seminar attracted a diverse audience of over 200 attendees from both domestic and international backgrounds. It served as a platform for presenting 60 scientific articles slated for publication in international proceedings, highlighting the extensive research and steadfast commitment to sustainability within the field.
Distinguished speakers from leading industry, academia, and government sectors graced the symposium, including Arsitek Yu Sing (Akanoma Studio), Ar. Yanuar Firdaus (Aaksen Responsible Aarchitecture), Fitriani Ratmaja (CALQ Agence d’Architecture, Prancis), Prof. Baojie He (Chongqing University, China), Prof. Yandi Andri Yatmo (UI), Prof. Paramita Atmodiwirjo (UI), Prof. Andreas Matzarakis (Universität Freiburg, Jerman), Bipin Shah (WinBuild, USA), Stephanus Koeswadi (PT Tatalogam Lestari), Muhammad Zeki (ClimateWorks), dan Edward Abdurrahman (Direktur Sistem dan Strategi Penyelenggaraan Perumahan, Kementerian PUPR). Moderated by Ar. Adrianto Santoso (Chairman of IAI Jawa Barat) and Maharany Putri (Tata Logam), the sessions delved into various aspects of sustainable development, ranging from energy-efficient building practices to social inclusivity and resilience to climate change. Emphasizing the application of green technology and environmentally friendly practices, the symposium addressed the latest approaches in developing energy-efficient buildings, good practices for building energy homes, research on sustainable architecture, and efforts to realize low-carbon development. Discussions also revolved around social inclusivity and community participation, highlighting the importance of engaging all stakeholders in the quest for a sustainable future.
