Department of Electrical Engineering Education Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (DPTE FPTK UPI) held a series of Community Service Program (P2M) at Vocational School 1 in Sumedang (SMK Negeri 1 Sumedang). The P2M program was officially opened by the Head of the Electrical Engineering Education Program of Study, Dr. Tasma Sucita, M.T., accompanied by the Principal of SMK 1 Sumedang, Dra. Elis Herawati, last Tuesday (21/09/21) which also involved several lecturers from the Department of Electrical Engineering Education.
This P2M program is conducted as a distance learning strategy training using online media which aims to provide learning during Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) for teachers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which has been running for almost two years. This description was expressed by the Head of the Electrical Engineering Education Program of Study when opening the program at SMK 1 Sumedang which is located at Jl. Major Abdurahman No. 209, Kotaaler, Kec. North Sumedang, Sumedang Regency.
Dr. Tasma said that the P2M activity is an annual activity that is always carried out by DPTE FPTK UPI as a form of dedication to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. In addition, P2M is also intended to overcome problems that exist in the community.
"The training conducted this time aims to help to teach staff to teach students, both in preparing new teaching materials and learning media during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an institution engaged in education and teaching, the DPTE FPTK UPI is moved to provide solutions for teaching and learning activities with this training," said Dr. Tasma.
The P2M activities were conducted by following COVID-19 health protocol standards starting from checking the body temperature of activity participants, providing masks and face shields that must be worn, using hand sanitisers and implementing social distancing between participants.
This P2M activity was also broadcast live online through two Virtual Meeting Zoom and YouTube Live Streaming for DPTE lecturers and teaching staff who cannot participate directly. This is intended to improve lecturers and teaching staff participation in the designed activities even though they are far from the location.
In her speech, the Principal of SMKN 1 Sumedang, Dra. Elis Herawati welcomed and appreciated the Community Service activities initiated by the P2M DPTE FPTK UPI Team.
"Community service activities like this are essential, especially during a pandemic. So schools in the regions can still carry out learning during the Adaptation of New Habits. I hope that activities like these can be carried out regularly," she added.
In this activity, five speakers who are competent in their fields including Drs. Wawan Purnama, M.Si, DPTE FPTK UPI Lecturer, discussed the matter of Testing Questions (Validity and Reliability). Didin Wahyudin, PhD discussed training on making electronic learning media, D Wasimudin, MT, discussed counselling on the use of standard electrical equipment for teachers, Iwan Kustiawan, PhD, discussed finding effective learning resources on the internet, and Dr. Ir. Maman Somantri, M.T. discussed interactive media in online learning.
At the end of the event, the DPTE FPTK UPI Chairperson stated that in conducting monitoring and evaluation, the P2M DPTE FPTK UPI team would monitor the participants through a Zoom meeting which would be scheduled in the future as an effort to maximize the results of this community service activities.
