The Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education (FPTK) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) starting from the establishment of the 1958 B1 Engineering course to improve the qualifications of Secondary Engineering School teachers who were still certified with Secondary technical school (STM) or School of Technical Education Teacher (SGPT) at that time. In July 1961, Ir. Hadith Sumantri had concurrent positions as the Vocational Secondary Education Officer of the Ministry of Teaching and Culture Education (PPK) and the Principal for the School of Technical Education Teacher (SGPT) and initiated the integration of B1 Engineering course into FKIP-B/Engineering Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) with the Department of Architecture, General Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering.
In 1963, the Indonesian Presidential Decree No.1of 1963 dated 3 January merged FKIP-A, FKIP-B, and the Teacher Education Institute (IPG) into Teacher Training Institute (IKIP Bandung). FKIP-B had two faculties which were the Teaching Faculty of Exact Sciences (FKIE) and the Faculty of Engineering Teaching (FKIT) with four departments.
On 7 September 1982I, with the Indonesian Presidential Decree No.48, the name of FKIT changed into the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education (FPTK). This decree also merged the Department of Architectural Engineering Education with Civil Engineering Education. FPTK then had three Departments, namely the Department of Building Engineering Education, the Department of Electrical Engineering Education, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education.
On 14 March 1983, with the Minister of Education and Culture Decree No. 0174/O/1983, the Department of Family Welfare Education from the Faculty of Education (FIP) was merged into FPTK. As a result, there were four departments in FPTK.
In 1999 with the Decree of the Director-General of Higher Education, Depdiknas No.363/Dikti/ Kep/1999 the Associate Degree of Mechanical Engineering Program was established and with the Decree of the Director-General of Higher Education, Depdiknas No.250/Dikti/Kep/1999 establish the Associate Degree of Electrical Engineering and Associate Degree of Civil Engineering. In 2000, with the Decree of Director-General of Higher Education, Depdiknas No.242/Dikti/Kep/2000 established the Associate Degree of Residential Architectural Engineering.
In 2006, the Department of Building Engineering Education was expanded into the Department of Civil Engineering Education and the Department of Architectural Engineering Education through a Decree Chancellor No.8046/J33/PP.03/2006 concerning the opening of the Department of Civil Engineering Education at the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and Decree Chancellor No. 8047/J33/PP.03/2006 concerning the establishment of the Department of Architectural Engineering Education, Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education at the Indonesian Education University. The bachelor degree for Program of Study Electrical Power Engineering was established by the Rector's Decree No.6765/J33/PP.03.02/2006.
Arrangement and re-establishment of operating licenses of the program of study at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in Bandung, based on a decree No.60/DIKTI/KEP/2007 dated 2 April 2007. FPTK had 13 programs of study under 5 departments.
In 2008, a program of study for Agro-Industry Technology Education for undergraduate education program was established. Under ADB's Advance Knowledge and Skill for Sustainable Growth (AKSI) project, for developing UPI as a TVET for Teacher Centre of Excellence, a new program of study has been and will be developed (including the Engineer Professional Education Program of Study), also Professional Certification Institutions, Vocational Teacher Professional Education Centre, TVET Research Centre, and Teaching Factory. The UPI Academic Senate has approved the opening of the Automotive Engineering Education Program of Study for the Undergraduate program (S1) which is then regulated by the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Rector Regulation number 4094/UN40/HK/2019. A year later, Logistics Engineering Program of Study for the undergraduate (S1) is regulated under the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Rector Regulation number 028 the year 2020. Also, the opening of the Industrial Automation and Robotics Engineering Program of Study is regulated under the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Rector Regulation Number 029 the year 2020, and the Architecture Master Program (Master) is regulated under the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia Rector Regulation Number 030 the year 2020.
